Cashback Structure for HDFC Millennia Credit Card

The most beneficial and significant aspect of this credit card is the cashback.

The following is a breakdown of the company’s payback structure:

ParticularsCashbackMinimum Transaction AmountMaximum Cashback Per MonthPayment Source
Cashbacks for Online Shopping at Amazon and Flipkart0.05Rs. 2,000First 6 months – Rs. 1,000
Post 6 months – Rs. 750
HDFC Payzapp and SmartBuy
Cashbacks for Flights & Hotel Bookings0.05Rs. 2,000First 6 months – Rs. 1,000
Post 6 months – Rs. 750
HDFC Payzapp and SmartBuy
Cashbacks for All other online spends0.025Rs. 2,000Rs. 750
Cashbacks for All offline spend0.01Rs. 100Rs. 750

The reward structure of this HDFC credit card is rather good, especially considering the annual fee of Rs. 1,000. EMI transactions are also eligible for the rebate. However, it does not cover gasoline transactions as part of the reward programme, which might be a disadvantage for people who use credit cards for the majority of their fuel purchases.

Welcome Bonus on HDFC Millennia Credit Card

You will receive 1000 CashPoints (Rs.1,000 cashback) once you have paid the membership cost. So, in a nutshell, your membership money is refunded to you.

Aside from that, if you spend a minimum of Rs. 1 lakh in a quarter, you will receive a gift certificate worth Rs. 1,000. (valid during the first year only).

You may also earn up to Rs. 1,000 cashback each month on online shopping payments using Payzapp and Smartbuy for the first six months.

Waiver of Membership Fees

The charge waiver requirement is typically kept simple for HDFC Bank clients, and this benefit has been extended to the Millennia Credit Card as well.

If you achieve the pre-determined spending milestones, you will not be charged a membership fee or an annual fee.

Waiver of Membership Fees Qualification:

To qualify for this waiver, customers must spend Rs. 30,000 during the first 90 days of receiving their card.

Waiver of Renewal Fees Qualification:

After spending at least Rs. 1.00 lakh in a year, you can get this waiver.

Customers can quickly reach the fee waiver expenditures milestone.

For salaried clients, the income criteria for this card is Rs. 25,000 per month.

The annual income limit for self-employed consumers is Rs. 6.00 lakh.

Most consumers who plan to use this card on a frequent basis will be eligible for the waiver. Annual fees will not be an issue in obtaining this credit card.

Access to the Domestic Lounge

In a given year, Diners Club Global, Visa, or MasterCard cardholders are entitled to eight complimentary visits through the Diners Club International, Visa, or MasterCard lounge programme.

The lounge programme is based on your card’s payment network.

You are entitled to two free visits per quarter.

Because there are just a few cards on the market that offer lounge access for a low annual cost, complimentary lounge access adds significant value to the credit card.

HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card Downside

The HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card has a number of positives, but the following drawbacks prevent it from becoming a genuinely excellent card.

Reward/Cashback Program

In order to take use of the cashback feature, you may need to spend a significant amount of money. And, as you may know, it’s pointless to rack up additional charges on your card only to receive that cashback.

No Cashback on Fuel Purchases

Unlike some other reward credit cards, the card does not give cashback on fuel purchases.

No access to foreign lounges

The card should have included at least two international lounge access options. This would have allowed the card to be used by infrequent foreign travellers as well.

Reward Limit

Under 5%, a maximum cashback of Rs. 750 may be obtained. Offers of 5% and 1% cashback are available.

CashPoint Life

CashPoints will expire one year after the year in which they were earned. This is a significant disadvantage because you will not be able to accumulate enough points to receive a significant cashback amount.

CashPoint Utilization Limit – To redeem CashPoints against your statement balance, you must save at least 2,500 CashPoints.

If you’d want to use their Cashpoints at the rate of 1 CashPoint = Re.

Main Disadvantages of HDFC Millennia Credit Card

Though the HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card checks virtually all of the boxes as an entry-level card, it does have a few flaws.

Limited airport lounge access: Instead of restricting airport lounge access to primary cardholders, HDFC Bank could have offered it to add-on cardholders as well.

Another disadvantage is the lack of access to international airport lounges.

No SmartBuy 10X Rewards Program: The HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card is no longer part of the renowned 10X Rewards Program. This is a huge letdown, and I wish HDFC Bank had extended the 10X Rewards Program to this credit card as well.

What might not be in your favor with millennia credit card hdfc ?

The cashback scheme appears to be worthwhile.

However, there are certain limits to the redemption procedure that may appear to be restrictive.

Restrictions on using CashPoints to pay for credit card bills are the biggest issue. To utilise this feature, you must have at least 2,500 currency points.

CashPoints, as we all know, expire after a year.As a result, if you just buy offline, you’ll need to spend about 2.50 lakh each year.

Even if you purchase online at Flipkart or Amazon, the most cashback you may receive each month is Rs. 750.

You’ll need to spend at least Rs. 15,000 every month for three months to achieve this.

Furthermore, the minimum transaction value at Flipkart or Amazon to earn CashPoints is Rs. 2,000. To redeem CashPoints against your account balance, you must spend between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Even so, HDFC Bank allows you to use your reward points to book flights and hotels, as well as purchase things from the reward catalogue. The conversion ratio has changed to 1 CashPoint = Re. 0.30.

This, along with the Rs. 99 redemption charge, makes the card a poor choice for frequent travellers and reward point collectors.

Overall, the incentive structure appears to favor big spenders.

The benefits that the card purports to provide may not be enjoyed by average customers.

Note: Cashback is granted in the form of CashPoints (1 CashPoint = Rs. 1) on every purchase. These CashPoints can be used to settle the balance owed. Alternatively, points can be used to book a hotel, purchase airline tickets, or purchase things from the reward catalogue.

Conclusion

HDFC Bank Millennia attempts to provide a wide range of advantages and rewards, with a focus on cashback and travel. This is one of the few cards on the market that includes lounge access and travel benefits for only Rs. 1,000 per year.

However, while fitting into both categories, it falls short of being a good credit card in either. You’ll have to pay a lot of money with the card to utilise it the way it’s supposed to be used.

The true cashback advantage is buried under layers and layers of terms and restrictions, spending caps, and expiration dates. You should only buy this card if you are certain that you will spend a significant amount of money on it, since only then will you be able to take advantage of its true benefits.

It’s a great deal to get 5% cashback on PayZapp and SmartBuy and 2.5 percent cashback on other online purchases.

This card competes with freshly released co-branded credit cards such as Amazon Pay ICICI and Flipkart Axis, with a default reward rate of 1%.

We would definitely suggest the HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card as a first credit card for novices. Note: According to an RBI advisory, HDFC Bank is no longer accepting new credit card applications.

But do not go for the Millenia Easy EMI Card unless you have requirement of frequently converting purchases in to installments

Note: According to an RBI advisory, HDFC Bank is no longer accepting new credit card applications.

Important: Due to RBI restrictions, new credit card issuance on the MasterCard platform has been halted until further notice. Existing card users will be able to continue to use their cards as usual. The Visa version of this card will continue to be issued by HDFC Bank.
