A new streamlined auto registration tool has been made available in order to simplified ICEGATE registration and entice more importers/exporters to register on the portal. The registration on the portal can be accomplished via the streamlined approach without the use of a Digital Signature Certificate or the uploading of any extra documents.
The procedure for auto registration on ICEGATE is covered in this article, as well as the disadvantages of auto registration.
On ICEGATE, the procedure for Simplified Auto Registration is as follows:
The following is a description of the simple auto registration procedure :

The disadvantages of ICEGATE’s automatic registration.

Q) At ICEGATE, what are the different sorts of message formats?
Ans- At ICEGATE, there are two types of message formats that match to two ICES EDI Software Versions that are in use at India’s numerous EDI ports, e.g.
Version 1.0 ICES Version 1.5 ICES Version 1.0 ICES Version 1.5 ICES Version 1.0 ICES Version 1.0 ICES Version
The Indian Customs EDI System is abbreviated as ICES.
Q) Where can I get the various message formats and filing criteria for different ICES EDI versions at ICEGATE?
Ans- Message formats for both ICES 1.0 and ICES 1.5 software can be found on the ICEGATE website at www.icegate.gov.in under the heading Guidelines—Message Implementation Guidelines.
Q) What is RES Software and how does it work?
Ans- RES stands for Remote EDI System Software, which allows users to create flat files in a user-friendly format that are compatible with the message formats accepted by ICES via ICEGATE. Actually, RES is an EDI software program developed by NIC that is available for free download at http://ices.nic.in.
Apart from the NIC developed RES package, which also allows users to file jobs in acceptable message formats at ICEGATE, there are many private software developers who have developed software similar to NIC’s RES and are also commonly / popularly/ mistakenly referred to as RES and are used by many of the trading partners.
Refer to the link Guidelines—Message Implementation Guidelines for further information on message formats for both ICES versions (ICES 1.0 and ICES 1.5).
Q) Are there distinct RES versions that are compatible with the two ICES versions?
A- Yes, there are two versions of RES software available, both of which are free to download and are compatible with the message formats accepted at ICEGATE.
1) ICES 1.0 RES Software and
2) ICES 1.5 RES Software
Q) In the RES Package for ICES1.5 and ICES1.0, what services are available?
Ans- File submission and rectification are available in the RES Package for ICES1.0 users, whereas Submission, Rectification, Amendment, and Query Response are available in the RES Package for ICES Version 1.5 users.
Note:-
1) For ICES Version 1.0, users should use RES Package 1.0, and for ICES Version 1.5, they should use RES Package Version 1.5.
2) People who are presently filing documents for ICES Version 1.5 and who were previously registered with the portal for ICES Version 1.0, but whose Customs location has been migrated to ICES Version 1.5 Software on the central server, should email registration@icegate.gov.in with their request and ICEGATE registration details.
Q) I have previously downloaded the RES. Is it necessary for me to update or download again?
Ans. NIC updates the RES package on a regular basis to maintain it up to date with the changes made at the ICES 1.0 and ICES 1.5.
To avoid files being denied at the portal owing to changes in the ICES 1.0 and ICES 1.5, maintain the RES package up to date.
Q) Can I use a single RES package to fill out both ICEGATE versions?
No, you’ll need different versions of the RES Package to file in different versions of ICES at the portal, such as ICES 1.0 and ICES 1.5.
Q) I created a job using the RES package and received an error message from ICEGATE stating that the file format was incorrect.
So, what should I do now?
Ans-Make sure you’re using the most recent RES packages from http://ices.nic.in/ and that you’ve installed all of the update patches.
If so, send an email to support-res@nic.in with the flat file for which the problem occurred as well as the error file.
However, some of the most often noticed format mistakes in papers rejected at the ICEGATE for the ICES 1.5 have been compiled and can be found in response to Q 24 and onwards.
Note: If you’re utilizing a private software developer’s so-called ‘RES package,’ you’ll need to contact your software developer / vendor to make the appropriate changes.
Q) What should I do if I’m having trouble with the RES package?
Ans- Please report your issue to the helpdesk at http://ices.nic.in/.
Alternatively, a mail to support-res@nic.in can be sent.
Provide detailed information, including the package used, the problem/error details, and any data entered, if applicable.
If you have a checklist and a flat file, please send them as well.
Q) Is it required to file paperwork using a registered mail address?
A- Filing the Shipping Bill and Bill of Entry paperwork from the user’s registered mail id is optional as a trade facilitation measure.
However, only the registered email address will receive updates and questions about the status of his or her jobs.
Q) What if I don’t receive a query?
A- Since transmitting the ‘Query’ raised by the assessing officers to the concerned user’s registered e-mail id is a new service introduced through ICEGATE in ICES 1.5, users are first requested to update their ICEGATE ID for query by sending mail to registration@icegate.gov.in with their complete registration details.
Following that, customers can not only receive queries raised in their BEs and SBs, but also file Query Replies through the internet using the RES package for ICES 1.5.
Q) How can I check the status of my documents that I’ve submitted?
Ans- Users can monitor the status of their submitted papers by entering into the ICEGATE website with their registered ICEGATE ID and selecting Document Tracking System from the drop-down menu.
Apart from that, users can contact the ICEGATE Helpdesk at 011-23379020 or 011-23370133, or send an email to icegatehelpdesk@icegate.gov.in with the contents of their submitted document.
Q) How can I obtain help with ICEGATE?
Users can contact ICEGATE Helpdesk at icegatehelpdesk@icegate.gov.in for assistance in filling out their paperwork on the portal. Emails addressed to the above-mentioned e-mail address are swiftly responded on the same day, preferably within an hour. Users can also call 011-23379020 or 011-23370133 for assistance with any issues.
Q) If I am currently an ICEGATE registered user and wish to add other services to my ICEGATE ID, can I do so?

Q) Is it possible to change my ICEGATE ID?
No, you cannot change or modify your ICEGATE ID. Because each registered user’s ICEGATE ID is unique, it cannot be changed or amended.
Q Can I change or edit my profile at ICEGATE?
Yes, you can do the same thing. To do so, write an email to registration@icegate.gov.in from your registered email address with detailed information of the modification/update.
Q) Do I need to register for the ICES 1.5 version separately?
No, if you’ve already registered with portal, your ICEGATE ID will work for both versions.
Users must update their profiles once in order to be registered for queries, which is a new function. Users must also send an email to registration@icegate.gov.in to change their ID.
Q) Can I register for ICEGATE directly by sending an email to registration@icegate.gov.in?
No, the same user must fill out the registration form found on the website at www.icegate.gov.in.
Q) What if I don’t send the file in the proper format?
Ans- As soon as the document reaches ICEGATE for processing, it will be refused.
Refer to the link – Guidelines —-Message Implementation Guidelines for further information on message formats, and then select the version of message type for which you are filling out the form.
